Dear Parents, September/October 2017
I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to read daily with your child. Please make it a habit to read at an appointed "set aside" time with your child. Encourage them to read for enjoyment because, as Dr. Seuss says,
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”
― Dr. Seuss, I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!
Ms. Dowell
P.S. Please feel free to contact me with any comments, concerns, questions, etc. Thank you!

HI Parents,
Here is a slideshow for your enjoyment, in celebration of reading and the upcoming Family Literacy Night, March 2019.
Please read to and with your child every night. We are striving for all kindergarten students to read fluently. This will give them a head start in first grade and beyond.
Thank you,
Ms. Dowell

Dear Parents,
It is December already! If you have not either received or returned your blue inclement weather form, please either request another or return it soon because we want to be prepared should the need arise.
We have begun Unit 3 in our kindergarten reading program. This week we will be reading See How We Grow, Unit 3.3.
We will begin the theme of Our Five Senses, along with Holiday Customs.
Please continue to read with your child every day. Also, please continue to work with your child on printing his/her first and last name and the daily homework assignment. Skills that will be tested for the second nine weeks are listed in your child's M.O.O.S.E. book along with the sight words we are committing to memory. Most of my students have earned their medal of honor, which they proudly wear around their necks (and touch often :-) as proof that they have mastered the first and second nine weeks sight words! Exciting stuff is happening!
A very big THANK YOU to the parent who regularly volunteers her precious time to tutor and/or read to our children!! You have no idea how much your time means to our children's success in school. I feel blessed to have this support.
Ms. Dowell

P.S. When you have lunch with your child, you will be allowed to stay and read, if you inform me ahead of time. We would love to have you visit our classroom!

May you find thankfulness in your heart for all the blessings in your lives.
Fall is in the Air!
The wind is whirling, round and round;
The leaves are falling down, down, down;
Happy little children run to and fro;
Scurrying squirrels bury nuts below;
The night sky is clear and stars give a wink;
'Cause they know Fall will be gone in a blink . . .
Enjoy it while we can!

Beginning 9-22-14, we will look at our globe and determine where our class is physically located; we will look on Google Earth at our location in TN and then zoom in on Mt. Rushmore and talk about its proximity to where we live. We will talk about which presidents from Mt. Rushmore are on our U.S. coins and examine their worth.
