Continue to share reading with your child. Either read together or help your child develop reading stamina by encouraging him to read alone quietly for a period of time (begin with two minutes uninterrupted). Students may "read" the pictures at this point, but will soon be able to read more and more words.
Reading to your child at home and having him either read to you or retell the story will have tremendous benefits for your child. Reading helps us think thoughts and formulate opinions. Remember, both Starfall.com and ABCmouse.com have reading components that will benefit your child greatly. Check these sights out! Enjoy the following quotes:
“A capacity and taste for reading gives access to whatever has already been discovered by others.”
- Abraham Lincoln
“To read is to fly: it is to soar to a point of vantage which gives a view over wide terrains of history, human variety, ideas, shared experience and the fruits of many inquiries.”
- A C Grayling
"I still find each day too short for all the thoughts I want to think, all the walks I want to take, all the books I want to read, and all the friends I want to see."
― John Burroughs
“If one cannot enjoy reading a book over and over again, there is no use in reading it at all.”
― Oscar Wilde
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”
― Dr. Seuss
